It’s ALL About ME! Channeling the skills of Adlerian Play Therapy to Build, Boost, and Back Self-Esteem
Presented by: Dana Holtz, LPC, NCC, RPT-S™, C-AdPT-A
Numerous children and adolescents identified as at-risk struggle with either low self-esteem or an unhealthy high self-esteem based on the ability to create feelings of inferiority in others (a.k.a. bullying behavior). We explore hands-on experiential play therapy activities based in Adlerian play therapy to provide children with a visual, auditory, and kinesthetic means for conceptualizing and developing a strong sense of self. Play therapy techniques based in the use of metaphors through bibliotherapy, expressive arts, and adventure therapy will be shared. Through the therapeutic powers of play, children develop a sense of grounding on which they can rely during times of struggle and challenge.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Describe strategies for implementing each of the 3 B’s of self-esteem in the playroom.
- Explain how the 3 B’s of self-esteem can be incorporated into each phase of Adlerian play therapy.
- Discuss the therapeutic powers of play utilized when supporting children in developing self-esteem/sense of self.
- Utilize at least ten (10) play therapy techniques anchored in building, boosting, and backing self-esteem/sense of self with children.
