Ethical Self-Care for the Play Therapist

This in-person training is for the current or aspiring RPT™ or RPT-S™ and is designed to support the professional integrity and ethical balance of the play therapist. Self-care is essential in the helping professions and is often overlooked while providing care. This training will discuss the history of self-care as well as the unique challenges of incorporating self-care as a natural extension of quality service.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Explain the history and current self-care standards of the play therapist while considering the possible influences of vicarious trauma, challenging work environments and overwhelming societal expectations.
- Demonstrate ethical self-care practices that support the emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual health of the professional.
- Discuss the importance of self-care in the life of a play therapist and its positive influence on professional performance.

About our presenter: Teri V. Krull, LCSW, RPT-S™, DCSW (NASW) is licensed in both Arizona and Maryland. She has a 40-year private practice treating children and providing consultation to professionals and parents. A member of APT since 1985 and co-founder and first president of the Arizona APT, she served 6 years on the APT Board (2000 Chair) and is currently a proud board member of the National APT Foundation. She is adjunct faculty to Creighton University and an international presenter in play therapy, professional self-care, parenting, supervision, ethics and play therapy translation. She has produced 4 educational films for long distance learning and has been published in the International Play Therapy Magazine. In 2010 she was honored with the Arizona District and State NASW Lifetime Achievement Award.

AZAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 97-035. AZAPT maintains responsibility for the program.
