Ain’t Misbehavin’: Assessing the Goals of Misbehavior in Play Therapy
Presented by Dana Holtz, EdS, NCC, LPC, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™
Children often engage in misbehavior in hopes of satisfying unmet needs. Unfortunately, such efforts tend to lead to frustration for parents and teachers. Join us as we explore the goals of misbehavior through the lens of Adlerian play therapy. We will utilize the therapeutic powers of play to support children in learning to meet their needs in a productive way. In addition, using Adlerian play therapy parent/teacher consultation skills we identify methods to help adults respond positively to misbehavior.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
- Explain the basic concepts of Adlerian play therapy
- Identify the four goals of misbehavior from an Adlerian play therapy perspective
- Describe the connection between the goals of misbehavior and the needs of children
- Utilize a minimum of eight (8) play therapy-based interventions to address the goals of misbehavior
