A Review of Play Therapy Clinical Supervision Utilizing Popular Children’s Movie Characters

Clinical supervision is an integral part of the play therapy process. The supervisor takes on many roles and responsibilities such as the gatekeeper, teacher, consultant, and mentor to name a few. This training will use playful exercises and Popular Children’s Movie Characters to illustrate different supervision methods, models and techniques, roles, and responsibilities of a play therapy clinical supervisor. This workshop will provide participants with creative play therapy tools to use in supervision with supervisees and offer a playful and fun evaluation of clinical supervision in play therapy.

- Define the roles and responsibilities of a play therapy clinical supervisor.
- Discuss models utilized in play therapy clinical supervision.
- Apply creative and play based tools for evaluation with the supervisee.

About our presenter: Ashlea Smith, PhD, LPC, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™ specializes in using play therapy, sandtray therapy, and EMDR to treat children and teens with anxiety, depression, and trauma. She is also a faculty member at Walden University providing clinical supervision and training to future clinicians in graduate counseling programs. Ashlea is on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Association for Play Therapy, serving as the membership chair. She also serves as an Editor for the Association for Play Therapy "Play Therapy Magazine."
