LEGO-Based Play Therapy: It's All in the Directive!
Presented by Althea T. Simpson, MBA, MSW, LCSW, LICSW, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™
Incorporating LEGO bricks in play therapy treatment can help clients enhance communication and problem-solving skills by building models to externalize thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Participants will be introduced to integrating LEGO bricks as a directive play therapy treatment strategy. Utilizing this integrative approach to play therapy can meet the therapeutic needs of clients throughout the therapeutic process from rapport building to termination. This is a "hands on bricks" interactive play therapy training from start to finish.
Participants will be able to:
- Incorporate LEGO bricks with focused techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy to use in play therapy treatment with individuals.
- Utilize metaphors from a play therapy lens to help individuals express thoughts, feelings and needs.
- Utilize LEGO bricks to assess and treat various mental health issues with individuals receiving play therapy.
