StoryCrafts: Creative Activities for Replenishing our Wellspring of Play Therapy Approaches

Presented by Joyce C. Mills, PhD, LMFT, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™

All of us are dealing with the on-going global effects of Covid in one way or another, often leaving us feeling creatively and energetically drained. Now, more than ever as play therapists, we need to replenish our wellspring of compassionate and creative play therapy approaches that will reawaken, reinvigorate, and regenerate a sense of inner strength, hope, and resilience with the children and families with whom we work.

Utilizing the resiliency-focused StoryPlay® process, this 3-hr. play therapy presentation will provide participants with experiential and creative activities designed to help children and teens reduce anxiety, transform fears into resources, nurture courage, connect to self-determination, embrace a playful nature, and enhance the flow of inner peace in the face of life’s challenges and uncertainties. In addition to use in private practice, examples will be woven throughout this webinar showing how specific activities have been successfully implemented with children and teens throughout the world in a variety of settings, cultures, languages, and age groups.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Access Inner Resources of a child or adolescent during the first session of Play Therapy.
  2. Utilize a creative activity that can awaken goals, identify obstacles, and activate inner resources in a play therapy.
  3. Design a collage using images to represent determination for building self-confidence and success during the play therapy session.
  4. From a play therapy perspective, Recognize how to utilize the elements of our natural ecology as metaphors in the quest for positive change and healing.

Level of training: Intermediate-Advanced
