Online Play Therapy: Through the Lens of the Therapeutic Powers of Play

In this experiential workshop, trainees gain practical application knowledge of how to deliver quality Play Therapy online with child and teen clients. With the entire world impacted by this global pandemic, it is more important now than ever to provide quality mental health care to children and teens. A differentiation of bottom-up and top-down approach is explored to learn specific ways to strengthen the therapeutic relationship by teaching clinicians how to be “with” clients even when in different physical locations. Trainees learn how to conduct virtual treatment for their child and adolescent clients in a safe and ethical way, while still holding true to the profound Therapeutic Powers of Play.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Describe the 4 categories of Therapeutic Powers of Play and how they are conducted via tele-therapy.
- Identify 3 ethical considerations when providing Online Play Therapy.
- Explain 3 potential challenges and 3 potential benefits of providing play therapy virtually.
- Differentiate bottom-up and top down approaches when engaging in Play Therapy online.

About our presenters: Jackie Flynn, EdS, LMHC-S, Registered Play Therapist™ is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Private Practitioner, Registered Play Therapist, Founder of EMDR and Play Therapy Integration Support, the host of Play Therapy Community Podcast and the annual Innovative Child Therapy Symposium, as well as a mom of 2 amazing teenagers. Long before COVID-19, Jackie was providing virtual therapy successfully for all ages. She is an Approved Provider for the Association for Play Therapy, as well as an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. Wanting to raise the quality of mental health care for children in online platforms, she has created lots of resources for child therapists working with children via telehealth. She absolutely loves working with children and families online.

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual meeting so participants can see each other. Participants will be awarded APT CONTACT CE upon successful completion of a post test. Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for 3 CONTACT CE Hours.
AZAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 97-035. AZAPT maintains responsibility for the program. Registrants understand and agree that any photograph, video or audio recording of themselves may be used to further promote AZAPT.
Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than June 30, 2021. Cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested. No refunds after June 30, 2021.
