Child Centered Play Therapy

Presented by Sara Haas, PhD, LPC, Registered Play Therapist

Relationships between therapists and children are crucial for healing to occur in therapy. Child-Centered Play Therapists provide the core conditions of person-centered theory; congruence, empathic understanding, and UPR to create a therapeutic relationship with children (Landreth, 2012). Additionally, understanding the history and theory behind Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is necessary to the implementation. This workshop will focus on the theoretical underpinnings, key principles, and skills of CCPT.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

    1. Discuss CCPT theory in order to promote a deeper understanding of the power of play therapy
    2. Explain core principles of CCPT theory
    3. Demonstrate CCPT skills that can be utilized in the play therapy room
