LEGO® Based Play Therapy: Building Resilience and Unlocking Creativity
Presented by Sophia Ansari, LPCC, Registered Play Therapist™ and Josué Cardona, MS
LEGO® play is universal, and LEGO® models and structures have become well-recognized not only as toy models but also as art forms. LEGO® unlocks the inner architect who craves creativity, flexibility, and transformation. LEGO® can be used as a therapeutic tool in play therapy and counseling to help strengthen relationships, provide sensory stimulation, improve social skills, and build resilience. This workshop will explore the therapeutic power of LEGO® in play therapy and counseling for working with children, adolescents, and adults. Participants will gain an understanding of how to incorporate LEGO® into directive and non-directive play therapy interventions to engage clients, improve communication, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution skills, and increase self-esteem and well-being.
Required Materials: This experiential webinar will provide participants an opportunity to build. It is recommended that participants have available to them the following items: a LEGO® baseplate, 40-50 LEGO® bricks,* and most importantly, your imagination! *Other building block systems may be used.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Describe the history and empirical rationale of LEGO® based play therapy and counseling.
- Identify 5-6 play therapy interventions to use with individuals, groups, and families.
- Utilize LEGO® in non-directive and directive play therapy.
