Play Therapy with Children Experiencing Parent/Caretaker Relationship Transition (PCRT©)
Presented by Teri V. Krull, LCSW, RPT-S, DCSW
Parent or caretaker relationship transition is one the biggest challenges facing children today. The change created by this issue prompts multiple changes in the family. The “face” of the family changes; emotions run high, and children are often caught in the middle of conflict and chaos. The child’s grief and confusion may be forgotten or at a minimum delayed, in the restructuring of the family.
This workshop is designed to provide clinicians with knowledge and skills that will enhance their ability to treat children of divorce or PCRT©. They will learn about the impact of parent or caretaker relationship transition on children, parents and society. They will also review the possible adverse developmental implications of this challenge for children.
Instruction will be offered regarding play therapy approaches and techniques for child clients. Also, though a play therapy lens, instruction will address how to guide (play therapy translation skills) parents/caretakers and children through the complications of divorce or PCRT©. Play therapy interventions as it relates to the child’s transition adjustment and self-esteem will be reviewed. Instruction will be offered regarding specific examples of play therapy techniques for children of divorce or PCRT©. Bibliotherapies and other interventions will be discussed.
Participants will be asked to share case experiences. Questions regarding future treatment issues will be encouraged.
