National Play Therapy Week 2021

Introduction to Puppet Play Therapy

Presented by Elizabeth Kjellstrand Hartwig, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT, RPT-S 

Puppets can be used by children in play therapy as an experiential tool for expressing their thoughts and feelings. This interactive workshop will introduce practitioners to the creative modality of puppets in play therapy. Participants will learn about the benefits of using puppets with children. The presenter will also introduce practitioners to two interactive play therapy interventions using puppets. Practitioners will create a dragon puppet to use as a bibliotherapy tool. All practitioners are invited to also bring a puppet to introduce at the training. 

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:

  1. Describe puppet play therapy
  2. Identify benefits of using puppets with children
  3. Explore the “Choose a Puppet” intervention
  4. Create a dragon puppet for puppet bibliotherapy

About our presenter: 

Elizabeth Kjellstrand Hartwig, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT, RPT-S, is an Associate Professor at Texas State University. She is the author of Solution-Focused Play Therapy: A Strengths-Based Approach to Play Therapy, director of the Texas State University Animal-Assisted Counseling Academy, and a Past President of the Texas Association for Play Therapy. 

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual meeting so participants can see each other. Participants will be awarded NON-CONTACT CE upon successful completion of a post test.

AZAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 97-035. AZAPT maintains responsibility for the program. Registrants understand and agree that any photograph (screen shot), video or audio recording of themselves may be used to further promote AZAPT.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than January 11, 2021. Cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested. No refunds or partial refunds will be considered after January 11, 2021.
