Nuts and Bolts of Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy

This presentation will explore the foundations of cognitive behavioral play therapy (CBPT), applying the basic tenants of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to play therapy sessions. CBT is historically an empirically supported approach, yet is often challenged regarding its effectiveness when working with children. This presentation will identify common misconceptions regarding Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy while applying developmental theory to work with children and adolescents. 

Learning Objectives: 

Participants will be able to:

1. describe CBPT core concepts and structure of CBPT session.

2. identify three myths of CBT and how related to CBPT.

3. discuss and apply developmental theory and considerations when using CBPT with children and adolescents..

About our presenter: Lisa Remey is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor and National Certified Counselor. She is also a ‘seasoned’ military spouse of 23 years and has helped her family cope with 7 deployments and 13 moves and understands first hand difficulties that occur in various stages of parenting.

It was in college that she had a calling to be a children’s counselor and has continued along this career path since. Her counseling experiences over a span of two decades have ranged from using play therapy as a social worker, school counselor, private practice, as well as creating a program for disaster counseling.

She also enjoys developing and co-leading programs for military kids, presenting at conferences nationally and internationally and appearing on Army Wife Network Talk Radio & American Warrior Radio.

Limited to 40 participants.

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual meeting so participants can see each other. Participants will be awarded CONTACT CE upon successful completion of a post test. Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for 2 CONTACT CE Hours.

AZAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 97-035. AZAPT maintains responsibility for the program. Registrants understand and agree that any photograph, video or audio recording of themselves may be used to further promote AZAPT.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than August 7, 2020. Cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested.
