Bringing Mindfulness and Movement into Play Therapy

Presented by Leslie Pechkurow, MC, LPC

This training will help the individual use mindfulness to teach body awareness and understanding of emotions in play therapy. The individual will learn techniques that are grounded in play for children to pay more attention to their bodies, and thus their emotions. The training will incorporate movement, breathwork, and self-awareness in a playful manner so that children can relate and have fun while learning ways to calm down and feel better about themselves. Through playing, singing, dancing, and moving children and families can learn the importance of connecting their physical bodies with their emotional minds to work through trauma and stress and gain positive coping skills.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • explain mindfulness and how this is important to the healing process.
  • describe the importance of connecting physical movement in play therapy with emotional intelligence so that children have an awareness of how emotions affect feelings in their bodies and vice versa.
  • use several play therapy techniques to help teach mindfulness and awareness to children and families.

Level of training: Foundational
