Addressing Intimate Partner Violence with Children in Play Therapy

This workshop explores the effects of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) on children, attachment styles, and caregiver relationships. Basic statistics addressing the prevalence of IPV exposure and effects on children will be discussed and interventions, both introductory and advanced, will be introduced to use in conjunction with already existing play therapy methods. A case study will be introduced and participants will discuss incorporating new skills into their existing practice.

About our presenter: Angela Catena is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Counseling and Counseling Psychology at Arizona State University. Her areas of interest include professional identity development and advocacy, LGBT issues in counseling, and working with individuals affected by intimate partner violence.
