The Power of Metaphor: Transforming Trauma with Resilience

Metaphor is a symbolic language that is at the heart of play therapy. This experiential workshop will present the neuro and sensory importance of creating and utilizing storytelling and artistic metaphors in our work with children who have experienced trauma and adversity. Participants will learn how to identify, access and utilize inner resources, skills, and gifts as invaluable “seeds” for awakening resiliency-pathways for effecting transformational healing with the children and adolescents who have experienced trauma and adversity in our care.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR THE PLAY THERAPIST:
Participants will learn how to:
1. Access and utilize inner Resources, skills, and strengths of a child or adolescent during the first session as the “seeds” for creating a metaphor.
2. Create a made-up storytelling metaphor.
3. Two StoryCrafts for facilitating the process of healing.
